\n<\/strong>The following insights are based on interviews with 3 different users<\/span><\/p>\n\n- Everyone interviewed was interested in having a garden.<\/span><\/li>\n
- They mostly felt that they did not have room for a garden and if they did only a small garden.<\/span><\/li>\n
- They felt that they did not have enough time to tend to a garden.<\/span><\/li>\n
- They felt that properly watering and fertilizing a garden would be difficult to do properly and worried they would not be successful gardeners.<\/span><\/li>\n
- They worried that they would not be able to get the seedlings to survive.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Generally interested in growing food, e.g. veggies, berries and herbs<\/span><\/li>\n
- They all were interested in the capabilities of the sensor and app we are designing<\/span><\/li>\n
- They all felt that they would trust auto-mode<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
User Survey<\/span><\/strong>
\n46 respondents (average demographics), <\/span>Age: primarily 44 and under, <\/span>Gender: 58% female, 40% male, 2% other, <\/span>Income: <\/span>$125,000 and under, <\/span>58% do not have a garden and 42% do currently have a garden<\/span><\/p>\n\n- 58% Feel they have space for a garden
\n<\/span><\/li>\n- 36% <\/span>Have time to garden<\/span><\/li>\n
- 81% <\/span>Interest in sensor for water, nutrients and temp<\/span><\/li>\n
- 79% <\/span>Interest in sensor controlled by an app<\/span><\/li>\n
- 78% Comfort with app auto-control for garden<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Customer Journey Exercise and Insights
\n<\/strong>We determined some key features by mapping out a full customer journey from purchase and set up to app operations<\/p>\n\n- Many potential frustrating steps with the assembly of the garden kit<\/span><\/li>\n
- A need for clear instruction and ease of assembly<\/span><\/li>\n
- Many opportunities to meet customer needs depending on their location and interest in varied plants<\/span><\/li>\n
- A necessity for many options for box design in order to meet different user wants and needs<\/span><\/li>\n
- A need for a unique identifier for box and app to sync together<\/span><\/li>\n
- One time sign in for app<\/span><\/li>\n
- User choice of auto and manual settings <\/span><\/li>\n
- Recommendations for users based on location<\/span><\/li>\n
- Include Gardening Tips<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
